International Society for Pediatric Neurosurgery (ISPN) Endorses Brain Trauma Foundation and American College of Surgeons TBI Course
Global support expands for evidence-based traumatic brain injury education and care
PALO ALTO, CA (June 24, 2025) - The Brain Trauma Foundation (BTF) is proud to announce the endorsement of its Fundamentals in the Management of Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) course, developed in partnership with the American College of Surgeons (ACS), by the International Society for Pediatric Neurosurgery (ISPN). This endorsement marks a significant milestone in the course’s global reach and reinforces its clinical value for both adult and pediatric trauma care providers.
Originally launched in 2024, the online course was built around the Guidelines for the Management of Severe TBI, 4th Edition, authored by the BTF. It equips clinicians with the most current, evidence-based recommendations for managing severe traumatic brain injuries — a condition responsible for significant morbidity and mortality worldwide.
“We’re honored to have ISPN’s endorsement, which reflects the course’s broad clinical relevance and reinforces our shared commitment to improving TBI outcomes across all patient populations,” says Dr. Jamshid Ghajar, the president of the BTF.
For over 30 years, the BTF has led the development of rigorous, evidence-based clinical guidelines that have demonstrated measurable improvements in patient outcomes, reducing TBI-related deaths by up to 50% when implemented in practice. The ISPN’s endorsement reflects broad relevance of the course to the care of all head injury patients including the specialized field of pediatric neurosurgery.
“The BTF and ACS are both organizations recognized for their commitment to excellence and to improving the outcomes of trauma patients. With this in mind we worked hard to ensure this new course exudes this excellence which caregivers expect from us. This endorsement from ISPN provides reassurance that we achieved this,” says Dr. Gregory Hawryluk, the Medical Director of the Brain Trauma Foundation. “This online course takes approximately one hour to educate clinicians with best practice recommendations for improving outcomes in brain injured patients. We appreciate the expressed support of the international pediatric neurosurgical leadership that the course is a valuable educational opportunity.”
Clinicians who complete the course will gain a thorough, practical understanding of current key recommendations for severe TBI management, with the opportunity to earn up to 1.50 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™ through the American College of Surgeons. A certificate of completion is also available for those not seeking CME credits.
